"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” CS Lewis.

It stands for good reason why the forces of America are trying to keep people "civilized."
In Michigan there is a state law that prohibits citizens from swearing in public. Additionally, the law is enforced at times.
Moreover, as a middle-school teacher, I am often disparaged to hear the students use profanity instead of using vocabulary words.
I inform the students of the law, and I lead by example. For instance, when students become noisey, Instead of saying shut the%%**up!!! I merely tell them that I will not listen to the brouhaha!
The word brouhaha immediately brings a hush. Then, they want to know if there is such a word. I tell them to look it up. By the end of the school year, the students are telling other students to stop the brouhaha!
